A confluence of influence, from the realism of Nihalani’s Ardha Satya to the surrealism of Picasso, have shaped his works. Praveen had an electric attitude to style, but at any one time his work was usually characterized by a single dominant approach, he has often moved interchangeably between different styles.
The aspirations of the young architect brought him to Bombay, just prior to the onslaught of the internet, cell phones and the shopping malls. In an atmosphere, when there were still considerable fears about the future of economic reform and western investors were flocking to management gurus to brush up on the basics of India, Praveen’s idea about his city and the city were being formulated. From the mid-1990’s his architectural practice began to explore the updating of the traditional materials.
