With over 20 years of experience across diverse sectors such as Pharmaceuticals, Lifestyle, and Institutional work, Kalyan Subbarao has transitioned from the corporate world to embrace his passion for sustainable living. As a dedicated social entrepreneur and co-founder of The Whitespaces, Kalyan founded Mrittika as a sanctuary for transformative growth, inspired by the principles of permaculture and natural building techniques he learned through workshops at Thannal.
Mrittika reflects Kalyan’s belief in humanity’s potential to coexist harmoniously with nature, learning from its resilience and abundance. Rooted in the ethos of regenerative living, Mrittika is more than just a farm or a learning centre—it is a community space designed to inspire ecological consciousness and personal transformation.
At Mrittika, Kalyan merges leadership principles with nature’s wisdom, creating immersive experiences that encourage individuals to lead with authenticity, compassion, and ecological awareness. Through his vision, Mrittika is a place where leaders and learners reconnect with the natural world, unlocking their potential for intentional growth and sustainable harmony.

As a family, we have worked as a team to bring Mrittika’s vision to life. Our daughter has played a significant role in this journey, contributing her time and talent whenever possible. One of the finest examples of her contribution is the Warli painting she has beautifully crafted on the cob walls of Mrittika. Her artwork not only enhances the aesthetic of the space but also reflects the values of creativity and cultural heritage that we hold dear. In addition to her artistic contributions, she has also supported us by managing Mrittika’s social media handles , helping us share our story and mission with a wider audience. Her efforts, grounded in love and teamwork, are a shining example of how Mrittika is truly a family endeavour.
